FRIENDSHIPS
I am an island in the sea
With other islands surrounding me
Each island being so similar
Outward appearances are all familiar
But looking closer, one will find
Faces change with passing time
Many differences large and small
Gives special uniqueness to us all
Days of sunshine makes us grow
New life emerges from seeds we sow
Roots spread deep within our soil
We harvest from the land we toil
Stormy waves may tear our shores
Eroding what we’ve built before
Sometimes doubting if we can stand
As ravaging waves erode more sand
Remember always storms do subside
Solitude follows the receding tide
Battered fragments of what used to be
Drift out of view upon the sea
The rolling waves return to us
Some of those things that we have lost
Drifting in from beyond our reaches
Foreign objects dot the beaches
Our shores are weathered with the past
More beautiful since before the blast
Rugged rocks ‘neath the surface found
Are polished smoother and finer ground
I am an island in the sea
Other islands are part of me
Sharing with others, never being alone
Rainbows point to treasures unknown
